What are you Choosing?

2022.03.31 Choice

Are you one of those people who wait for a Monday to start something new?

Do you wait to set goals until the beginning of the month or the New Year? Are you even good at starting things? How about finishing what you start?

I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to wait for a date on the calendar before I set something new in motion. We get excited when we start something new. We begin to think about new possibilities, new ways of living, expanded opportunities, waking up every day with a smile on our face, and having the complete satisfaction in knowing we are on purpose.

But after this initial excitement, reality may set in. In order for us to take hold of that new idea, some of our old ideas have to go. We can’t embrace financial freedom and also be resentful when we're paying our bills. We can’t write that book and get it published when we're complaining there are already so many others writing about the same thing.

It is so easy to remain comfortable.

We tell ourselves we’ll just go on Facebook for 30 minutes; we’ll only play three games; we’ll only watch one TV show, we’ll only read one chapter. And the 30 minutes we thought we’d spend turns into three hours! Does this sound familiar?

Maybe it’s because we really haven’t made a decision.

We’ve only been wishing, and hoping, and dreaming. And while those activities are good (and fun), they don’t always provide the action and passion needed to start, let alone finish. Wishing, and hoping, and dreaming allow us to stay firmly planted in our comfort zone. And because we like to remain comfortable, we’re reluctant to take the risk and step out into the unknown.

What if it doesn’t work? What if I’m a failure? What if it’s not successful? So we end up reverting to the mindset that convinces us, “Better the devil you know!”

The road to our greatness involves risk. And part of our greatness is self-worth.

We have to step out in faith. I’ve worked with people who have made a decision to do the following:

  • Go back to school to earn a degree
  • Re-enter the workforce
  • Change careers
  • Eliminate excess fat
  • Relocate for the betterment of family
  • Start a new business
  • Increase self-love and self-esteem

Every one of these people had to give something up in order to take a step forward.  And mostly what they had to give up is a story and a belief.

What is your story? What are the excuses you tell yourself that keep you from moving forward? What if that story and those excuses were not the truth?

Recognizing and appreciating our own greatness and brilliance seems risky and is not for the faint of heart.

Is it worth the risk to dream that ‘impossible’ dream? To live a life of joy and fulfillment? To be passionately alive and excited about life and all it has to offer? How would it feel to live that sort of life?

Or we can play it safe. We can live in relative comfort. We can live of a life of mediocrity. We can go about our day knowing our “song” is unsung. How does it feel to live that sort of life?

It’s all about making a decision and choosing.

Not just hoping and wishing for something and then choosing the same as always. Start small. Walk for 10 minutes. Meditate for 10 minutes. Read an inspirational book for 10 minutes. Write in a journal for 10 minutes.

Make that decision today. Don’t wait for all of the events in your life to be perfect before you begin. Start today because today is the perfect day for new beginnings.

Isn't it time to honor who you truly are and take a chance on yourself? Step into self-love and self-worth in a new way and dare to be great!

Say YES to yourself and step into your greatness

Rock On
