From the Basement to the Penthouse

2021.04.22 Penthouse

I love taking my cues from nature.

I live in Spokane where it’s very cold in the winter. The house stays closed up during the winter, and when Spring arrives, the windows fly open and the house gets a breath of fresh air!

We all need fresh air and fresh ideas. Spring seems like it’s in full bloom. I love when nature wakes up from its winter slumber. It always reminds me to wake up from my slumber, too. I get to ask myself, ‘What have I been asleep to?” “What have I closed my eyes to?” “What wants to blossom within me?”

Yes, Springtime reminds me (and maybe you, too) of new growth, new opportunities, and the excitement that comes from birthing new ideas.

The thought seeds we plant today will create our experience tomorrow. What kind of seeds are you planting?  Are they the seeds which will take root and grow into the sort of life you desire?  Are they the seeds of confidence, desire, belief, and courage?

Or are you planting seeds of doubt, regret, judgment, fear, and mistrust?  Are the thought seeds you are planting the same ones you’ve always planted?  It’s very easy to think the same thoughts over and over again, even if we aren’t experiencing what we want based on those ideas. Everyone can do that (it’s easy and effortless!).

The thoughts that limit us are our basement thoughts. Those are the thoughts which tell us it is too late, there isn’t enough time or money to accomplish what we want, we aren’t smart enough or lucky enough, we are never in the right place at the right time, and nothing ever turns out the way we plan.

On the other hand, we have penthouse thoughts as well. Those are the thoughts and ideas which inspire us. They invite us to remember our talents and our genius. They pull us forward and offer meaning to our lives.

Wherever we spend the majority of our time (in the basement or the penthouse) we are setting up a self-fulfilling prophesy. Which one feels better and where do you want to live?

Buddha  said, “All we are is the result of what we have thought”; Jesus said, “It is done unto you as you believe”; Ernest Holmes said, “Change your thinking, change your life.”

Where do you want to hang out? In the basement or in the penthouse?

If you’re hanging out a little too much in the basement, the way out and up is to take the stairs. One step at a time. Here are your first two steps:

Step 1:  Accept What Is.  If you can accept “what is,” even if it’s just for a moment, you let go of resistance which allows you to move out of the basement consciousness. Negative situations, ideas, beliefs, and conditions remain in your experience because you give them power by thinking about them – even if you are saying NO. You’re still looking at what you don’t want.

If you can take inspired action to change something, then take it. However, if your only outlet is complaining, then accept the situation and don’t bask in the negative energy.

Step 2:  Expect Your Good.  Regardless of circumstances or what is happening, you can continue to know that the Universal Good (God, Infinite, the Field of Pure Potentiality, the Quantum Field, Divine) desires to be expressed as your individual good -- no matter what!  When you keep your mind in the penthouse, others may try and bring you down to the basement with them. Avoid that trap! Let your dream, your vision, or your passion continue to pull you forward. Pay attention to the little things which whisper that you are moving in the right direction.

Megaphone2Use this affirmation:  Nothing is too good to last; nothing is too wonderful to happen!  And I deserve it!

Try these two simple steps which can help move you from the basement to the penthouse and let me know how it goes.

Say yes to yourself by moving on up to the penthouse!

Rock On
