I mentioned in a previous video that I realized that many of my so-called SMART goals were simply to-do’s. Just something to check off my list.
And while I love to check things off my list, my SMART goals left me uninspired and they often felt like a chore. Then I tried DUMB goals – and boy! What a difference! Now that I started setting DUMB goals, I am re-invigorated and re-inspired to talk about dream building again. What’s DUMB you ask? Watch the video to find out. And, I’d love to hear your big dream. We all 'play it safe' at times. We all hang out in our comfort zones. But too much hanging out there and we'll just live mediocre lives.
In this video, I share one of the ways I was 'hiding out' and 'playing small' and the one small thing I did to help move me out of my comfort zone. Even though it can be scary to take that first step, once we take it, chances are it wasn't as bad (or hard) as we thought it was going to be.
They say that our clients are some version of us - - the theory of 'like attracts like' I guess.
I used to give feeble excuses as to why I didn't set big money goals, like "Money isn't that important to me" or "I'm not doing this for the money." Does this sound familiar? (And is it any wonder I wasn't making big money?) Well, it is familiar to about 60% of my clients. And it's just another way we get to play small and stay small. It's just another way we get to devalue ourselves. In this week's video (which I've taken to calling "Possibility Ponderings)" I talk about how important it is to set your money goals. And if it's hard for you, then it's time to look at your relationship with money and your relationship with your value.
A goal without a plan is just a dream...
I admit it, I'm a lousy goal setter (at least I have been in the past). And since goal setting was such a challenge for me, I could spot a lousy goal a mile away! I followed the rules of setting S.M.A.R.T. goals, but they always seemed to lack the pizzazz I was looking for. Of course, I internalized this as a failure on my part - I was doing something wrong. Why was something so simple so. darn. difficult? And then I realized I wasn't really setting goals, but 'to-do's'. And a 'to-do' list isn't sexy, stimulating, or satisfying. In this short video, I give you a quick tip on helping you invigorate and 'spice up' both your goals and to-do's. |
