My recent visit to the Oregon Coast was amazing!
I went on a wonderful vacation to Oregon with my daughter. The change of scenery with the waterfalls, rivers, creeks, and ocean really filled me up. Not to mention the lush vegetation and trees and a trip to the Tillamook Cheese Factory.
And even though we were busy seeing sights, shopping, and driving around, I was constantly filled with a sense of calm and well-being. I was present, engaged, open, receptive, and flexible.
I didn't complain about the weather (which was great, by the way - just a smidgen of light rain occasionally) or getting lost or having my plans be interrupted.
Okay, I did get a bit grumpy when my plan to go to the zoo was foiled because the parking lot was full. But as soon as I let go of my grumpiness, then we were right in downtown Portland and had a great time. When I let go of needing to control the outcome, everything flowed. We even found a great parking space downtown.
And then when we arrived at Powell's City of Books, everyone was helpful and a complete stranger (a man) complimented me on my outfit, telling me how chic it was!
Can't I take that experience of calm and well-being with me wherever I go?
Do I have to take a 2 ½ hour flight followed by an 8 hour car ride to experience that sense of calm and well-being while being active? Or is it just a matter of attitude? Is it a matter of what I choose to focus on and how I choose to label my situation and experiences?
How about you? We always have a choice at how we respond to any situation. We don't have to be at the mercy of events and situations. We are the creators of our own experience. How many times have we been having a good day and then in an instant something happens - we get bad news, or look at our checkbook balance and now our day is ruined?
How about the other way around? How many times were we having a bad day - maybe we're tired and just want to go home and go to bed. Maybe our boss or spouse yelled at us. And then our good friend calls us and takes us out to dinner. Or the phone rings and we get some great news. We're happy and energetic in an instant. What changed? Only our attitude...our mindset.
I think we need to continuously "let go" -
We need to let go of expectations and live in the now. It's time to let go of old beliefs that don't serve us or that limit our joy and happiness and embrace the essence within. Maybe we even need to let go of figuring out how to hang on to our positive experiences.
In this moment NOW, let's be grateful...in this moment NOW, let’s be joyful...in this moment NOW, let's be fully present...in this moment NOW, let's be love in expression...in this moment NOW, let's eliminate all judgment...in this moment NOW, let's be available and supportive and friendly and happy.
In this moment NOW, let's embrace life and the awesomeness that we are.
