![]() Happy New Year! Oh wait, that was three weeks ago! Are you one of those people who set New Year’s Resolutions? Do you wait for a Monday to start something new? Do you want to wait to set goals at the beginning of the month (or the New Year?) I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to wait for a date on a calendar before I set something new in motion. We get excited when we start something new. We begin to think about new possibilities, new ways of living, expanded opportunities, waking up every day with a smile on our face, and having the complete satisfaction in knowing we are on purpose. But then reality may set in. In order for us to take hold of that new idea, some of our old ideas have to go. We can’t embrace financial freedom and also be resentful paying our bills. We can’t write that book and get published when we are complaining there are already so many others writing about the same thing. It is so easy to remain comfortable. We tell ourselves we’ll just go on Facebook for 30 minutes; we’ll only play three games; we’ll only watch one TV show, we’ll only read one chapter. And the 30 minutes we thought we’d spend turns into three hours! Does this sound familiar? Maybe it’s because we really haven’t made a decision. We’ve only been wishing, and hoping, and dreaming. And while those activities are good (and fun), they don’t always provide the action and passion needed to make those changes. The road to our greatness involves risk. We have to step out in faith. I've worked with people who have made a decision to do the following:
Every one of these people had to give something up in order to take a step forward. And mostly what they have to give up is a story and a belief. What's your story? What are the excuses you tell yourself that keep you from moving forward? My "go to" excuse were that I didn't have the time, I didn't have the money, or I didn't have the knowledge. When we agree with our excuses, we are stuck inside a box of our own making. We need to not only "think" outside the box, but "step" outside the box, too. What if that story and the excuses you tell yourself are not the truth? Recognizing and appreciating our own greatness and brilliance seems risky and is not for the faint of heart. Is it worth the risk to dream that impossible dream? To live a life of joy and fulfillment? To be passionately alive and excited about life and all it has to offer? How would it feel to live that sort of life? Or we can play it safe. We can live in relative comfort. We can live of a life of mediocrity. We can go about our day knowing our “song” is unsung. How does it feel to live that sort of life? It’s all about choice. It’s about making a decision and making new choices. Not hoping and wishing and choosing the same as always. Start small. Walk for 10 minutes. Meditate for 10 minutes. Read an inspirational book for 10 minutes. Write in a journal for 10 minutes. Make that decision today. Don’t wait for all of the events in your life to be perfect before you begin. Start today because today is the perfect day for new beginnings. If you need support and encouragement, email me. I’ll encourage you for free. Don’t wait to be great!
